York Animal Hospital Wellness Center: Your Pet’s Health, Our Priority

At York Animal Hospital, we are committed to offering the best care for your pets, and our Wellness Center is designed to focus on preventive care for healthy pets. The wellness center is conveniently located right across the parking lot from the main animal hospital.

Why Regular Wellness Exams Matter

Just as regular physical exams are essential for humans, they are just as crucial for your pet’s well-being. Since pets can't always communicate their discomfort or health issues, we recommend annual exams for all pets, with more frequent visits for those with specific health concerns.

Routine wellness exams allow us to assess your pet’s overall health, detect early signs of potential health issues, and address concerns before they escalate into serious conditions. These visits also give you an opportunity to ask questions about your pet’s health, lifestyle, and care needs. We take this time to educate you on home healthcare and provide up-to-date advice on keeping your pet healthy.

Preventive Care at York Animal Hospital

Our Commitment to Preventive Care

Preventive care is the cornerstone of your pet’s health. Our team is dedicated to providing the highest standard of care by recommending the following:

  • Annual Wellness Exams: Regular check-ups help us stay on top of your pet’s health.
  • Proper Dental Care: We offer guidance on home care to prevent dental disease, one of the most common health issues for pets.
  • Microchip Identification: In case your pet becomes lost, we recommend microchipping for peace of mind.
  • Disease Screenings: Regular screenings help detect conditions common in senior pets before they become critical.
  • Vaccinations: We provide up-to-date vaccinations and use low-volume doses when available to minimize stress on your pet.

We strongly believe that client education is key to providing great veterinary care. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and resources needed to provide your pet with the best care possible, not just during visits, but throughout their lives.

Wellness Exam

What to Expect During a Wellness Exam

Wellness appointments at our Wellness Center include a thorough physical exam, vaccinations, and senior pet wellness evaluations. We may also monitor specific health metrics such as bloodwork.

During your pet's wellness check-up, our veterinarians will:

  • Listen to Your Pet’s Heart: Early signs of heart conditions, like murmurs or arrhythmias, can be detected with a stethoscope. Catching these issues early allows for timely intervention.
  • Listen to Your Pet’s Lungs: Pulmonary health is essential, and any signs of infections, obstructive diseases, or other lung issues can be identified through a lung exam.
  • Examine Your Pet’s Teeth and Mouth: Dental health is critical for your pet's overall well-being. We’ll examine teeth for signs of disease and ensure puppies and kittens are developing proper bites. We’ll also offer guidance on at-home dental care.
  • Evaluate Your Pet’s Vision: We check for ocular conditions that can be more easily treated if detected early.
  • Check Your Pet’s Ears: Ear infections are common and may not be visible to the untrained eye. We check for signs of infections caused by allergies, parasites, or other factors.
  • Palpate the Lymph Nodes, Abdomen, and Skin: By feeling your pet’s body, we look for unusual lumps, skin discolorations, or other signs that may indicate systemic health issues.
  • Examine Joints and Muscles: We check for signs of arthritis, muscle atrophy, and any developmental issues like hip or elbow problems in puppies or early signs of arthritis in older pets.

Appointments at the Wellness Center

Simple, Non-Infectious Appointments at the Wellness Center

In addition to routine exams and preventive care, the Wellness Center is also the perfect place for a variety of simple, non-infectious appointments. These visits are designed for pets that do not have contagious health issues but may need routine check-ups, health monitoring, or care for non-emergency conditions.
